Daniel J. (b. 2002) is an illustrator and photographer whose practice centres on documenting landscape and nature through the seemingly mundane. Through his printmaking, drawing and photography, he investigates ideas of place by focusing on overlooked details of everyday life, revealing moments of quiet, hidden in the banal. Rather than seeking dramatic views, Daniel is captivated by the edges of experience: the outskirts of towns, the obscured paths and traces of human presence in the natural world.
Daniel investigates memory and perception by carefully shaping tone, texture and composition. His creative approach is rooted in his personal experience and is propelled by an interest in the process. Each project starts with an alternative observation: walking, collecting, sketching and photographing environments. Through his work, he invites viewers to reconsider their everyday surroundings and embrace the ordinary.
